US Open 2022: Nick Kyrgios fined after spitting in the direction of his own box

The fact that Nick Kyrgios sometimes openly displays his frustration on the tennis court is nothing new. Nor that he often has to dig deep into his pocket for his freaks.

His disgust attack in the second round match against Benjamin Bonzi (7: 6, 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 4) now costs him 7,500 US dollars. After the decisive break in the third set, the Australian lost his composure and spat towards his box. When he changed sides, he verbally vented his anger: “Go home if you don’t fucking want to support me,” the 27-year-old grunted over the system.

Earlier in the second set, Kyrgios had argued with chair umpire Jaume Campistol and complained that the stadium smelled of marijuana. “You don’t want to remind anyone not to do that,” the Wimbledon finalist asked sarcastically.

Campistol suspected the smell could also come from the kitchen at Louis Armstrong Stadium. An argument that Kyrgios didn’t want to let go: “Obviously I’m not complaining about the smell of food. Obviously not!”

The enfant terrible of tennis was fined at the Miami Open ($35,000) and Wimbledon ($4,000).
