Union at favorite opponent Cologne: Comeback for Baumgartl

Köln. 1. FC Union Berlin want to show that they have coped well with the 1-0 home defeat against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise at the start of the Europa League. The first opportunity to do so is today (3.30 p.m. / DAZN) in the Bundesliga game at 1. FC Köln.

«We were disappointed and not satisfied. But we didn’t dwell on it for long. We addressed one or two things that need to be done better,” said soccer coach Urs Fischer.

There is a special comeback in the Rhineland. Timo Baumgartl will be back in the squad for the first time since he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in April.

Some changes in the starting eleven are in the offing in Cologne. Defender Danilho Doekhi is out because he has suffered a structural injury since the Saint-Gilloise game, according to Fischer. The same applies to reservist Kevin Möhwald, who cannot travel to Cologne either.

In return, Diogo Leite and Jordan Siebatcheu made it back into the squad. Defender Leite has recovered from a bruised chest, attacker Siebatcheu has a muscular problem. “Jordan is important to us because he started the season well. He also got along well with Sheraldo Becker, »said Fischer about the possible comeback of the goalscorer. The new signing was missing in the games against Bayern Munich (1-1) and Saint-Gilloise.

For Union, Cologne is one of the favorite opponents. Five out of six Bundesliga games could be won. With ex-Unioner Steffen Baumgart, the Irons meet a highly motivated FC coach.
