Two minutes of silence and a second round on Saturday under the sun

After two minutes of silence in tribute to the Queen of England Elizabeth II who died on Thursday, the second round of the BMW PGA Championship in Wentworth began its second round under the sun, with the Habs in ambush…

09:50… Siren sound! In all its components at Wentworth, from the countless public to an army of volunteers, from big BMW and Rolex sponsors to ice cream parlors, pros whatever their label, banned or not yet, in short everything that has a soul… golf of the Wentworth Club suddenly froze! 50,000 people staring into the lawn, into their cell phones or into their stoves. A long two-minute moment of silence felt like a sincere participation in the mourning of the British royal family, commensurate with the real sadness of the subjects of Her Majesty Elizabeth II who died last Thursday. An impressive snapshot!

Sergio Garcia jette l’éponge

Three hours earlier, the second round, postponed after a Friday off as a respectful tribute, the tournament returned to the west course of Wentworth. 6646 meters of traps that the pros never stop trying to figure out. Here, the truth of one day is not necessarily that of the next day in both directions. Sullivan, tied for 1st in the 1st round in 64, only takes out a par in the second in much friendlier playing conditions, while the 76 of Min Woo Lee (AUS) is compensated by a 62 with the same clubs, making him pass the cut comfortably. We see these score reversals in all high-level games, but here on the “West” much more often. Isn’t it expensive Sergio Garciawhose 76 encourages him to take the tangent, unless it’s all the LIV Tour hay that’s undermining him… ?

The many French under par

Of the eight French people in play for a “prize money” of eight million and, importantly, ranking points for the 2023 season, only Frédéric Lacroix did not beat par in the 1st round. In his defense, he had to play the first 36 holes with Oliver Becker (-3), member of the LIV Tour clan that, to say the least, he does not carry in his heart and makes it known. The good points are for Matthew Pavon to -4, then Romain Langasque, Victor Perez, Oliver Rozner, Julien Brun, Julien Guerrier et Victor Dubuisson, all at -3 well into the Top 28 with a welcome rest day. The “BMW” was then led by Sullivan, Hovland and Fleetwood at -8, with McIlroy at -4, ready to spoil the weekend for the unpredictable.
