Troyes-Rennes: the discomfort of a referee delays the kick-off by a few minutes

Slight setback in Troyes at the start of the match between Estac and Stade Rennais. One of the referees of the meeting suffered from discomfort shortly before the start of the game, delayed by six minutes. The official had to be evacuated on a stretcher, noted an AFP journalist. It was the assistant referee, Florian Goncalves de Araujo. He collapsed on the pitch as the captains exchanged greetings. The players of both teams then formed a circle around him and the emergency services quickly intervened to evacuate him, to the applause of the public. The referee remained conscious.

He was then replaced by the fourth referee, Eddy Rosier, and the main referee, Mathieu Vernice, kicked off six minutes late. More fear than harm a priori. This penultimate meeting of the 6th day of Ligue 1 was able to take place without a hitch. This type of incident always arouses some cold sweats since Christian Eriksen’s heart attack with Denmark during Euro 2021. During CAN 2022, the referee of the Tunisia-Mali match had suffered a sunstroke and had signaled the end of the game in the 85th minute.
