From the height of her 9 years, Emma does not have her tongue in her pocket when it comes to telling her afternoon on the Route des Jeux, where she came with her dad and her grandma, this Sunday, September 25. It’s barely 4 p.m., and you can tell she hasn’t wasted her time.
Like her, several hundred Pau men and women of all ages came to try one or other of the activities offered by the Olympic Committee in and around the Château de Pau.
“Traditional” Olympic disciplines (fencing, weightlifting, shooting, etc.) but also newcomers, such as breakdance, to which creative workshops have been added: the creation of a collective work, an Olympic flame made of threads connected by the participants , an idea of the Hybride workshops located at Foirail, and painting on moldings in the shape of a flame created by high school students in the arts and crafts of Coarraze.
“The goal is to bring the spirit of the Olympics to life in emblematic places in the territory, with the actors of the territory, through days of animation on themes linked to sporting values, explains the ex-judokate Manon Thinnes, from the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of Pyrénées-Atlantiques (CDOS 64). It’s our first today, we’re going to travel to several cities (see opposite) and start over every year until the Olympics. »
On the Place de la Déportation, a ceremony had opened the day with music with the Camino youth orchestra, inaugural speeches and a presentation of medals to several champions of the territory in activity (the very fresh European champion in disabled shooting Guillaume Toucoullet, the paratriatlhète Ahmet Andaloussi, the young swordsman Eliott Bibi…) or retirees (the former Bayonne goalkeeper Jean-Claude Larrieu, who played with Platini and at the Montreal Olympics in 1976).
And since the day was definitely placed under the sign of sport, the participants in the Pau triathlon finished their race in the district of the castle, mixing the image of the competitors in full effort with that of the possible future champions and champions.
