The national stadium needs 25 million euros, at least half of which will be given by international partners / Article

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA) are interested in financing the construction of the stadium, Lashenko said. LFF is also working to attract funding from other sources.

About half of the stadium’s construction costs would be covered by UEFA, which Lashenko called a fantastic indicator. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin will arrive in Riga on September 21, who, during a meeting with the highest officials of the country and the capital’s municipality, will inform about the possible amount of co-financing for the construction of the stadium, Lashenko explained.

LFF wants to implement a project that would allow the construction of a stadium with seats for 13,500 spectators in Lucavsala. Lashenko emphasized that the stadium would be in an attractive location not only for football, but also for various other sports and cultural activities. The stadium would also be designated by the LFF as the home of the federation and the football museum.

“The UEFA president will fly in to confirm it and say they are ready [iesaistīties stadiona būvēšanā],” said Lashenko. “To hear from state officials what kind of co-financing they can come up with.”

Lashenko reminded that currently Latvia does not have a stadium of the required level for national team matches. The “Skonto” stadium belongs to Russian businessmen whose future plans are unknown, but the “Daugava” stadium does not have the appropriate category for holding high-level international competitions, the LFF president explained. He emphasized that football needs a stadium to host high-level competitions.

The Latvian national football team has regained the trust of the fans, which the football players feel and play with maximum dedication, the LFF president admitted. He reminded that the national team has not lost eight matches in a row, at the club level, RFS entered the group stage of the UEFA Conference League, and new football fields are being built in the country, which contribute to the development of the sport.

Continuing the path to a higher level in the UEFA Nations League, the Latvian national team will play its next game on September 22 against Moldova, hosting the opponents at the “Skonto” stadium.
