The legendary Popovich aptly answers the question about what motivates him to continue coaching the Spurs

For Popović, the 27th season in a row at the helm of the “Spurs” club is coming. The new season will be quite different from the previous ones, because this time the San Antonio team will consist of six rookies, two sophomores in the league, as well as two players who will be in their third season in the NBA.

The coach did not publicly hide his thoughts about his and the team’s tasks for the next season, abandoning the clichéd phrases of American professional sports.

“I definitely shouldn’t say this, but I’m going to do it anyway. Hell! None of you should be going to Las Vegas to bet on us winning a championship. It’s probably not going to happen. My main job is to develop these players so that they can would create a long career in the NBA,” Popovich said.

The “Spurs” captain is the most victorious NBA coach, he achieved this record last season. He currently has 1,344 career wins as a head coach.

From 1998 to 2019, under his leadership, the San Antonio team reached the NBA playoffs for 22 consecutive seasons. Popovich has five NBA championships, three coach of the season awards, and was selected as the manager of the NBA All-Star team four times.

A journalist asked Popovic what still drives him forward in his coaching work. The legendary specialist answered this question in his characteristic manner.

“My paycheck,” Popovich was direct.

“Spurs” will start the new season on the morning of October 20, Latvian time, hosting the Charlotte “Hornets” at home.
