The Latvian women’s football team loses in the game against Northern Ireland / Article

The first goal in this match was scored by the Latvian national team – Anastasija Ročāne headed the ball into the opponent’s goal. But in the 36th minute, the score was tied 1:1, when the national team’s goalkeeper Enija Anna Vaivode accidentally sent the ball into her own goal.

In the second half, the initiative belonged more to the Northern Irish. In the 89th minute, after a corner kick, the opponents limited the movement of Vaivodes and the ball from Arta Luiza Luiņa unsuccessfully and treacherously jumped into the goal of Latvia. But in the last seconds of the compensation time, the result was already 1:3.

Pussardze Ročāne admitted in an interview to Latvijas Televīzisia after the match that there was very little left to win a point with a draw. However, she praised the team’s willpower and expressed confidence that the team made significant progress during the qualification cycle, gaining important experience for future tournaments.

With one victory in ten matches, Latvia ranked 6th in the group, reports the Latvian Football Federation (LFF).
