the Greens bring down the Bordeaux leader

Saint-Etienne comes out of the red zone in the league by dominating Bordeaux this Saturday (2-0).

AS Saint-Etienne may have finally launched its season this Saturday afternoon. In a meeting behind closed doors where clear chances were rare, the Greens won quite logically by two goals. However, it is the Girondins de Bordeaux, leaders of the classification before this 8e day of Ligue 2, who had the best start, led in particular by a good and enterprising Fransergio. But after the first quarter of an hour of play, David Guion’s players have slowed down. A drop in speed which the Stéphanois were able to take advantage of to gain the upper hand. And at the 35e minute, after a magnificent sequence, Thomas Monconduit, found in the penalty area by Dylan Chambost, served Ibrahima Wadji in front of the goals. The Senegalese, active in the first act, did not shake and pushed the ball into the back of the net for the opener. Laurent Batlles’ men therefore returned to the locker room with a one-goal advantage.

After the break, the Girondins de Bordeaux again experienced a highlight. Twice, Vital Nsimba sent a perfect cross for Dilane Bakwa. If the French striker missed the target on his first attempt, on his second, it was Matthieu Dreyer who intervened perfectly to avoid the equalizer. AS Saint-Etienne then punished Bordeaux’s lack of realism. At the 67e minute of play, on a cross from the left side of Lenny Pintor badly repelled by the Gironde defense, Yvann Maçon took his chance to volley. His cross attempt with the right foot managed to surprise Gaëtan Poussin, yet very good this afternoon. At the end of the match, the Bordelais pushed to try to come back. However, this Saturday, the Greens were solid and it was only logical that they won the three points. With this major victory, they leave the red zone and move up to 12th place in the standings. Their adversaries of the day, meanwhile, remain temporarily first.
