Dylan Jiménez won yesterday in the second edition of the Andra Mari Txiki Award, held in Baranbio and ending in the hermitage of Garrastatxu. The 131-kilometre event brought together 127 runners at the start, of which 91 qualified. Four steps through the Alto de Las Chozas as a previous step to the final three-kilometre wall that blew away any forecast.

It is the first victory of the course for the Costa Rican cyclist, who until now had prevailed in tests against the clock. At 20 years old, he is completing his first year at Lizarte. He arrived from his country at the beginning of the year to try a new adventure and try to gain a foothold in professionalism following his steps as an amateur in races in Spain. «I am a climber and the truth is that the final ascent was good for me, because it had a couple of walls with two breaks. Pablo has gone forward and I’ve stayed with Samuel and Mintegi. I was able to release them and then my partner waited for me in the final meters to enter together. He has given me the victory and the truth is that I am grateful to him », Jiménez told EL CORREO shortly before getting on the podium.

The truth is that the race had as its protagonist a breakaway of ten runners who came to have more than three and a half minutes with respect to the peloton. Among them were two from Alava, Julen García and Diego Ruiz de Arcaute. It was almost at the beginning of the race when said cut was made, although the decisive section remained, the one that many feared. In the first ramps the platoon found them, after more than a hundred kilometers escaped.

Then the Lizarte played his tricks. Castrillo attacked first and Jiménez arrived in time from behind to raise his arms. Samuel Fernández completed the podium, being García champion of Álava.
