Tennis: Serena Williams opens the door to imitate Tom Brady

Serena Williams might just copy a page from Tom Brady’s book.

Williams, who said last month she would “grow” away from competitive tennis after the U.S. Open this year, once again opened a door to a possible comeback in an interview with Good Morning America Wednesday.

This time, the one who holds 23 grand slam titles referred to another sports legend.

“You never know,” Williams first said when asked about a possible return to tennis. “I think Tom Brady started a trend really cool. »

Brady, 45, retired from football last February, before announcing six weeks later that he had changed his mind and would finally play a 23e season in the NFL.

Williams, who turns 41 later in September, lost in the third round of the U.S. Open in what was seen as her last run in professional tennis.

Williams, however, avoided using the word “retirement”, remaining vague on whether or not his presence at Flushing Meadows was his last tournament. She even admitted that “you never know” when asked if she might reconsider her decision to retire after her defeat.

The American also admitted that her sister Venus Williams was among those who encouraged her to postpone retirement.

“She’s not finished yet,” Serena said of her sister. “She’s trying to get me, and I say ‘no’. »

Williams has made no secret that she wants to stay involved in the sport, even though her playing career is over.

Tennis has given me so much, and I believe I will always want to be involved in this sport in one way or another in the future. I don’t know what that involvement will be, but I know I love this sport, I love everything about this sport. It’s always been a light in my life and I want to stay involved. »
