But not only on the field, there is a lot to happen for Antwerp. Also around Marc Overmars, things are said to be moving again. For example, the English top club Chelsea FC would see an ideal sporting director in Overmars.

According to The Daily Mail Christoph Freund of RB Salzburg was the top candidate, but he decided to stay with the Austrians. Chelsea was already interested during Overmars’s period at Ajax, but that interest had weakened after his name was mentioned in the scandal surrounding cross-border behaviour.

Whether Overmars will really make the switch remains to be seen. The Dutchman only joined Antwerp this year and already managed to complete some nice transfers. Just think of Toby Alderweireld, Vincent Janssen, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Calvin Stengs.
