FC Utrecht is punishing several supporters with a stadium ban for the discriminatory chants last week during the match against Ajax. The club reports that four people have been identified and registered with the KNVB for a national stadium ban.

During the match in the Galgenwaard jungle noises could be heard after a goal by Ajax player Brian Brobbey. Brobbey himself did not want to give the whirlwinds any attention afterwards.

“I don’t really care, we won nicely,” said the attacker.

Utrecht did not leave it at that and shot into action. “For three other people, it will be examined what their punishment will be, for committing various criminal offenses in the stadium. Finally, the person who entered the field (unlawfully) after the match against Ajax has been banned from the stadium.”

General director Thijs van Es wants nothing more to do with these supporters: “We want to ban these people from the stadium, because these incidents are intolerable.”

In addition to the discriminating choirs, a fireworks bomb was also thrown from the audience near Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer. The club reports that the fireworks thrower is also being punished and has now been arrested for follow-up by the Public Prosecution Service.

Shame

Shame is the dominant feeling, Van Es reports: “A match of FC Utrecht, home and away, should be an outing for everyone and a place where everyone should feel welcome. That was not the case.”

He apologizes from the club to anyone who has not felt welcome or safe, including the players. “The measure is full. A limit has been reached and crossed, we are fed up with this behaviour. We want and will keep these crooks out, this has nothing to do with support.”

Last round in the Eredivisie, it was hit again in Utrecht in the match against Fortuna Sittard. Fireworks bombs were thrown on the field, also at FC Utrecht players themselves.

The club reports that it is busy with the investigation. “There are five people in the picture for setting off fireworks and also one person for facilitating the fireworks action. These people are identified and will be registered for a stadium ban.”
