Seraing wins in Mechelen and leaves the red lantern at Cercle

This victory, the 2nd of the season for the Steelworkers, allows the Liège club to leave the last place in the standings. It is now the Cercle de Bruges, beaten Friday by the Club in the derby of the Venice of the North, which is red lantern. Seraing opened the scoring after Mechelen goalkeeper Yannick Thoelen deflected into his net a shot from Antoine Bernier pushed back by the post towards the Mechelen goalkeeper’s back.

The Steelworkers’ joy was short-lived. Mechelen equalized five minutes later through Thibaut Peyre and Sandy Walsh gave Kavé the lead by making it 2-1 in the 44th minute.

The match was restarted in the 69th minute, when the referee awarded a penalty to Seraing for a foul on Bernier in the rectangle. Marius Mouandilmadji appeared at eleven meters and deceived Thoelen to bring the score equal. The Chadian striker once again deceived Thoelen in the 81st minute, allowing Seraing to sign his second victory of the season after that won two weeks ago against Eupen.

Eupen also made the bad deal on Saturday by losing 0-1 to Kortrijk. Having entered the game eight minutes earlier, Dylan Mbayo scored the only goal of the match in the 82nd minute. A goal that allows them to return with 3 points in their pocket from their trip to the Kehrweg.

If he is no longer last, Seraing does not leave the red zone. The Liège club is 16th with 6 points, the same total as Eupen, 15th thanks to a better difference. Westerlo, who goes to Antwerp on Sunday, and Ostend, who goes to Standard on Saturday, also have 6 points, behind Kortrijk, 12th with 7 points. Mechelen is in 10th place with 7 units as well.
