Roger Federer: What the tennis legend only finds “silly” | Sports

Before his last pro match |

What Federer only finds “silly”.

“I’m not satisfied, I’m happy. I’m happy with the decision because I know it’s the right one.”

Roger Federer (41) before the last game of his tennis career.

The Swiss will be on the court again at the Laver Cup. On Friday evening he wants to compete in doubles in the duel “Europe against the rest of the world”. After that it’s over – forever. Unimaginable for his fans, who adore him as the greatest tennis player of all time.

Does the Swiss see himself as a GOAT (Greatest of all times)?

He does not want to answer this question clearly. He even describes the debate as “silly”.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion (Djokovic won one more Major title, Nadal two): “How can you compare that? What is better? Winning when you’re old or young? I have no idea. Is it better to win on clay or grass? I dont know. Is it better to be dominant for years or to come back from injury? I dont know. It is impossible to grasp that.”

Federer continues: “People always like to make comparisons. I see this every day with my twins. Even if you don’t want to, you compare them. But you shouldn’t. Never.”

Comparisons have accompanied Federer throughout his career. For a long time he was the leader of the “Big Four”, which included Nadal, Djokovic and Murray. They will all serve in London for the Europe team.

Federer: “We made each other better.” He himself needed “these challenges”, “and they needed a challenger like me”.

What does he need for the last match of his career? A double partner!

Federer dreams of Nadal, his biggest rival. The Swiss: “Of course I would like to play with Rafa. That would be a special moment.” It’s hard to imagine that the Spaniard will turn that down…

Federer had his third operation on his right knee in August 2021. Most recently, he was on the tennis court at an official game in the quarter-finals in Wimbledon in July 2021. Last week he announced that he would retire after the Laver Cup.

And without answering the question who is the best of all time!
