Red Bull continues with its own engines due to disagreement with Porsche

Helmut Marko has reiterated Red Bull’s decision to enter the future in Formula 1 without Porsche. The Austrian team, based in Milton Keynes in England, will not sell shares of the team to the German carmaker.

After the Dutch Grand Prix, reports came out that several decisions were made by the management of Red Bull Racing last weekend in Zandvoort. The deal with German sports car maker Volkswagen for 2026 is already said to be “cracked” over disagreements over who would control the team after a 50 percent buyout.

Marko explains to the newspaper Osterreich: “There was never a deal or a legally binding agreement, so there was nothing to crack. We are the most attractive bride, but we are not necessarily looking to get married. We could do it.” We will not be selling shares to Porsche. After all, we are not the Porsche Supercup.”

It appears Red Bull is now planning to move forward with its own Red Bull Powertrains project for 2026, with Christian Horner denying Honda’s possible return as an engine supplier is Red Bull’s ‘plan B’. Horner: “With our agreement with HRC, Honda has left the door ajar. But as far as we are concerned, the train has left the station.”

Marko agrees, stressing that reports of a full Honda return are “all speculation”. “We are now concentrating on fighting for the world championship and defending the title with Max,” the 79-year-old Austrian insisted.

Sources suggest Porsche could now turn its attention to McLaren, led by successful team boss Andreas Seidl. It is not known whether McLaren would be willing to sell part or all of the team, but as the British team is run by real business people, people would be interested in hearing Porsche’s ideas.
