The miner celebrated its 100th anniversary
On September 8, Baník Ostrava, one of the most successful Czech clubs, celebrated its 100th anniversary, three-time champion of Czechoslovakia and champion of the Czech League 2003/2004, semi-finalist of the 1978/1979 Cup Winners’ Cup.
Emphasizing how Baník is specific is not the prerogative of the people of Prague, Brno or residents of other regions, in whose expressions traces of irony and even mockery could be found. The locals say it themselves. “Baník is historically a family club,” says Alois Hadamczik, the chairman of the hockey association, who co-owned the club in the years 2000-2003, and his younger brother Evžen, who tragically passed away thirteen years ago, was signed to the club’s greatest achievements. “That’s his greatest strength,” supplies.
Despite great expectations, the unflattering results at the beginning of the current year indicate that Baník will have to wait for the next crowning. And maybe for a long time. “It’s still missing something,” reflects Václav Daněk, the club’s shooting legend. “Miner is a different club than others,” he also emphasizes.
So maybe the local coach Pavel Vrba, who fits in perfectly in the turbulent environment, will discover where the mistake happened.
Lions have new jerseys
The (old) new version of the jerseys of the Czech national team was presented by the German sports brand Puma, which wears them. The previous experiments with the shocking green color are gone, she bet on tradition – a classic look, red T-shirts and white shorts, the second option is white. With a fighting lion on the breast. “Jerseys that are associated with the greatest successes in history, in which Antonín Panenka played,” reminded the national team coach Jaroslav Šilhavý.
It’s up to him to put the right players in them and add another valuable artifact to the hall of fame.
Priske gives up the fight for the title
The Danish coach of Sparta Prague, Brian Priske, performed a special tour. He took the unsuccessful match in Jablonec (a 1:1 draw against a numerically weaker opponent) upon himself, declaring that it was his responsibility. He probably tried to take the pressure off his charges.

On the contrary, Slovácko’s match with Slavia was a celebration of Czech league football, it was full of emotions, dramatic moments, accompanied by a wonderful backdrop of crowded corridors, people went up and down. Neither team was satisfied with the resulting draw, as both wanted to win.
“Just more matches like this,” the guest coach Jindřich Trpišovský did not hide his enthusiasm. And everyone adds that more goals should have been scored, the score 3:3 was much more appropriate. And don’t be afraid of high goals – why not 6:6!

The Champions League started and the first matches brought a big surprise – Croatian Dinamo Zagreb beat London’s Chesea FC, the winner of the 2020/2021 competition, who again spent a considerable amount on strengthening the squad.
