Presidents Cup: the Americans in full control; the Canadian duo Conners – Pendrith bows

The Americans extended their lead on Day 2 of the Presidents Cup to extend their lead to 8-2 over the international team on Friday at Quail Hollow in North Carolina.

For the first time in history, a Canadian duo started in the same duo at the Presidents Cup for this session played under the “four-ball, best ball” format. In the 5e and last match of the day, Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith delivered an excellent match to Billy Horschel and Max Homa which ended in an American victory on the 18th hole. Pendrith birdied the tricky last hole, but Homa replied with the birdie to secure the victory for his team.

Powerhouse Davis Love III scored the first two points of the day thanks to their two trusted duos.

Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas first signed a 2 & 1 victory over the Australian pair of Adam Scott and Cam Davis. The Patrick Cantlay – Xander Schauffele tandem also served medicine to Hideki Matsuyama and Tom Kim with a win of 3 & 2.

The Americans led all five games at one point, but a late comeback from Trevor Immelman’s men saved the day.

With a high-quality short game, Sungjae Im and partner Sebastian Munoz snatched a draw from world number one Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns. Then, Mito Pereira and Christiaan Bezuidenhout also scored half a point thanks to a draw against Kevin Kisner and Cameron Young.

Two team play sessions will be presented during the day on Saturday, before the presentation of the singles duels on Sunday.

In the history of the competition, the United States have won 11 of the event’s 13 presentations and are undefeated on American soil.

Former US Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush attended the Quail Hollow club.
