Patriotas and Alianza tie in relegation duel

Patriotas and Alianza Petrolera met on date 13 at the La Independencia stadium in Tunja in which they played an even match and with very few scoring options. The two teams came to this match in need as they are located at the bottom of the standings and they had to add to the championship and to avoid relegation, especially the boyacense team.

This need was not enough for either of them to be superior in the first half. They were 45 minutes with more possession for the Patriots, but without a single shot on goal. Alianza did not have scoring opportunities either and was more defensive than its rival on the field of play.

In the local team, Leonardo Flores, Carlos Mosquera and Cristian López stood out, who were the ones who most insisted on three quarters of the field forward, but they did not have precision and they did not find a way to get deep and a real risk to the goal defended by Jaime Mora.

The first half ended tied at zero goals. Even teams and play in the middle of the field. Alianza Petrolera made the game go like this, because without having much of the ballthe visiting team won most duels and stood up very well in defense.

Second half: bitter draw for both

The second half continued with the same dynamics as the first. Patriots with the ball, Alianza well positioned and with good recovery of the ball in the middle of the field, but with no intention of going towards Geovanni Banguera’s goal. The first option in arc was for Patriots.

A play between Flores and Iván Rivas could have ended in a goal, but the striker’s header went just wide of the target, so much so that the player threatened the celebration. Two minutes later, another play between Mosquera and Rivas himself went to the back of the net, but the line judge annulled the action for offside..

In the last minutes of the game, Alianza took advantage of spaces left by Patriotas to go on the attack and at minute 80 they were about to unbalance the scoreboard through Luciano Ospina. But the one that could go up was José Eugenio Hernández’s team with two clear options at the end of the match.

This result is bad for both. In the standings Alianza remains with 13 points and Patriots with 10. In the relegation Patriotas is second with an average of 0.91 and Alianza is third with 1.07, so equality leaves things the same in that classification in which the first is Cortuluá. On the next day, Patriotas will face a tough match against Atlético Nacional and Alianza a Junior de Barranquilla.
