The owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, Jeanie Buss, is determined that LeBron James, the best player of his generation in the NBA, retires with the uniform of the Californians, as proof of this is the contract extension signed by the “King” for two years and 97.1 million dollars.
“I have a good relationship with LeBron. He knows he can reach me whenever he wants and vice versa. I think he feels appreciated. We’re also grateful for his decision to sign the extension and stay with us,” Buss told Sports Illustrated.
“James is a fantastic leader both on and off the court. We are blessed to have him on the Lakers. We want to see him retire as a Laker.”
LeBron’s new deal has a $50.7 million player option for the 2024-25 season, which could give him a chance to play alongside son Bronny in California.
LeBron could pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, something that for Buss would be just one more success in his glorious career.
“LeBron will probably become the leading scorer in NBA history,” Buss said.
