Official: Jason Denayer joins Dubai and Shabab Al-Ahli

Free since July 1 and the end of his contract at Olympique Lyonnais, Jason Denayer finally found a club. The 27-year-old central defender has decided to leave Europe to join Shabab Al-Ahli. The Dubai club, coached by the Portuguese Leonardo Gardenannounced the arrival of the Red Devil on Wednesday in a video posted on social networks.

Denayer, 27, had been playing for Lyon since 2018, with whom he played 137 games and scored 8 goals.

Trained in Ganshoren, Anderlecht and at the Academy Jean-Marc Guillou in Lierre, the central defender joined Manchester City in 2013 to evolve with the U18s. The ‘Cityzens’ had loaned him to Celtic in 2014-2015, where he won the Scottish championship, then to Galatasaray in 2015-2016. In 2016-2017, he was loaned to Sunderland before a new loan to Galatasaray, with whom he won the title in Turkey. He had never worn the Manchester City jersey when Lyon recruited him in 2018 for 10 million euros.

Denayer has 35 caps and one goal with the Red Devils. Despite his status as a free player, the player was called up by Roberto Martinez during the last international window. Present with the group, however, he did not play in the duels against Wales and the Netherlands.

Shabab Al-Ahli, 5th in the last United Arab Emirates championship, is in 5th place after three days of the championship. By the start of the World Cup in Qatar, only seven matches are on the club’s schedule.
