Novak Djokovic congratulates Carlos Alcaraz: “An incredible performance”.

Novak Djokovic, a 21-time major winner, has joined the long list of players who have congratulated Carlos Alcaraz on his first major title. The Serbian posted: “Congratulations to @carlitosalcarazz on your first Grand Slam.

Sinner had match point against Alcaraz on his serve at 5-4 in the fourth set, which wasn’t enough to propel him to the top.

Carlos endured every obstacle and spent hours on the court before the decisive clash with Casper Ruud. Retaining enough energy, the Spaniard triumphed 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 in three hours and 20 minutes to enter the history books.

The two rivals were battling it out for the first major title and the ATP throne, giving their best to emerge at the top. There were three service breaks on each side, and Carlos won five points more than Casper.

The Spaniard fired 55 winners and 41 unforced errors and kept the points on his racket with an aggressive approach. Ruud had a huge chance to build a two sets to one advantage, but he wasted two set points in the 12th game of the third set and lost momentum in the fourth.

Carlos broke at 1-1 in the first set and fired a service winner at 5-4 to wrap it up. Casper saved a break point at 2-2 in the second set and took charge from there.

The Norwegian has won four games in a row and won the set 6-2 to increase his chances. They traded the first breaks of the third set and served well until the twelfth game.

Alcaraz had no room for error at 5-6 when they faced two set points. Staying focused, the Spaniard fended them off with winners and won the tie break 7-1 to close in on the finish line.

Carlos served well in all five games of the fourth set and stole his rival’s serve in game six to take the lead 4-2. The teenager fired a powerful serve at 5-3 to seal the deal and become the seventh-youngest Grand Slam champion.
