NFL seeks to insert or Flag Football not Los Angeles 2028 Olympic program

With an eye on the increasing popularity of American football around the world, the NFL (National Football League) is trying to enter the Football Flag do not program two 2028 olympic gameswhich will take place in Los Angeles.

Inclusion would be through IFAF (International Federation of American Football) it’s yes USA Football, with institutional and financial support from the NFL. The event will be part of the 2022 World Gameswhich will be held in Birmingham, also in the United States.

According to the NFL, the advantage of the sport is that it is easy to play and requires virtually no protection. Play is stopped when a player pulls one of the two cloths hanging from the opponent’s waist.

The IFAF wants to include a more compact version of the sport, with five athletes on each side on a smaller field (the maximum is eight athletes). Currently, 72 nations are affiliated to the entity, including the Brazil. The United States lead the world rankings in both suits, while the Brazilian team is in seventh place in the men’s.

The NFL’s Chief of International Operations, Damani Leechtold the agency Reuters who is supporting USA Football and IFAF’s attempt to include the sport in the 2028 Games, but confirmed that IFAF will coordinate the bid.

Richard Macleanalso in an interview with Reuterssaid that with the right support, there is a possibility of the modality being included in the Olympic program of the 2028 Games.

It is worth noting that there is still no date set for the announcement of the modalities chosen by Los Angeles for the 2028 program.
