Group win gone, World Cup fear there…

Germany lost 1-0 to Hungary in the Nations League, surely missing out on the semi-finals of this competition.

Much more important: Exactly two months before the start against Japan, we suddenly have to worry about the finals in Qatar…

HANSI, THAT WILL NOTHING!

In front of 39,500 fans in Leipzig, Hansi Flick’s team (57) played very weakly for a long time. For the national coach it is the first bankruptcy in the 14th game (nine wins, four draws).

Before the game he says on ZDF in the direction of his World Cup candidates: “I expect them to perform when they have to. And that’s today!”

But only the Hungarians deliver, who don’t go to the World Cup, but have the best chance of winning the group!

Flick after the game: “No, I’m not worried. Games like this happen. Better now than in November when we start the World Cup. You can still play with courage and conviction.”

► 17 minutes: Corner from Leipzig’s Szoboszlai, ex-Mainz striker Szalai with the hoe. Müller only gives escort, ter Stegen watches – 0:1.

World Champion Christoph Kramer (31) on ZDF: “You can hardly defend that.”

The Hungary captain with the 26th goal in 85 internationals. With the game against Italy on Monday he ends his national team career.

And Germany? The DFB selection without Neuer, Goretzka (both Corona) and Brandt (cold). And without ideas and speed! But with an incredible number of bad passes and hardly any chances.

Jonas Hofmann (30): “The first half was really shitty! That must be a lesson for us today.”

Significant: In the 26th minute there is the first corner. It wasn’t until just before half-time that the first ball was on goal, and Müller failed to hit Gulacsi with a header (38′).

Stupid: German fans throw white and black slips of paper from the choreo in honor of Uwe Seeler († 85) at Szoboszlai at corners. Referee Vincic (Slovenia) interrupts the game briefly and announces that nothing should be thrown onto the pitch (35′).

Acknowledgment for the non-performance in the first half: a loud concert of whistles and boos at the break.

Joshua Kimmich (27): “In the first half we didn’t do much to win. We always talk smack internally. It doesn’t matter if it’s going well or not. The coach has it under control. We can do better in England on Monday. And we will do better too!”

Germany after the change (Kehrer comes for Gnabry) with significantly more steam. Less is hardly possible…

Sané (51st) fails at Gulacsi, a goal by Müller (53rd) does not count because Hofmann was previously offside and Werner (57th) was too harmless against his Leipzig teammate in the Hungarian goal.

Flick reacts, brings Musiala and Havertz for Gündogan and Werner (70th). But it’s not enough to equalize against No. 37 in the Fifa world rankings.

Temporary captain Thomas Müller (33): “You noticed with many that the phase in the club is not the easiest. We didn’t get the power on the pitch.”

HANSI, THAT WILL NOTHING!

It continues on Monday in Wembley. England are waiting there, who also lost 1-0 in Italy on Friday evening (goal: Raspadori/68.) and are thus relegated to the B-League. For both of them it’s all about prestige.

And for Flick and his boys in the penultimate test, it’s about finally getting in shape for the World Cup…
