Munar misses out on victory in Metz

James Munar had a difficult debut in the Metz ATP. The Spaniard was measured against a local player, Arthur Rinderknech. It is true that the Frenchman had started the season very well and was not going through a good moment at the moment, but he had just played the Davis Cup with France and was more used to this type of surface.

Munar started somewhat cold and making some mistakes. Thanks to this, his rival achieved a break that, after confirming it, sent him up to 2-0. Rinderknech was very successful with his first services and in a few shots he ended up winning most of the exchanges. Munar aimed to toughen up the rallies from the back of the court, but he couldn’t hit the key. A new break sent him to Rinderknech until 5-2 and left him very close to winning the first set. Without major problems, the local tennis player 6-2 in just 30 minutes began to get on track for victory.

As usual the Spaniard was going to continue fighting and waiting for his chance. Munar came out much stronger at the start of the second set. The Spaniard reached all the balls and made Rinderknech’s game very uncomfortable, who was beginning to despair due to his mistakes. Thanks to a break, Munar went up to 4-1 and did not stop getting excited, further undermining his opponent’s morale. The local suffered again and again with his service and that is that when he did not find the first serves, the point almost always belonged to the Spanish. After 5-2 another break by Munar gave him the second set 6-2 and forced the final set.

Things couldn’t have started better for the Spanish tennis player, and thanks to a break and his confirmation, he started the match on track, going up to 3-0. Instead Rinderknech played at home and was not going to give up. The public encouraged him and after a great reaction he was able to make it 4-4 to reach the final games evenly. here the pressure was strong with a Munar who saw how in the eleventh game he lost his service to white and Rinderknech also won the twelfth game to white by 7-5 ended up confirming the victory and thus dismissing the Spanish tennis player from the Gallic tournament.
