It was the transfer thriller of the summer…

Cristiano Ronaldo (37) was keen to leave Manchester United. According to media reports from Portugal, his advisor spoke to his ex-club Sporting Lisbon, Chelsea were probably interested, Ronaldo himself allegedly wanted to go to Borussia Dortmund. There were rumors about SSC Napoli. A desert club made an immoral offer. And the latter is now confirmed by the club boss.

The president of Saudi club Al-Hilal, Fahad ben Nafe, announced on the YouTube channel Thamanya: “Yes, we have negotiated with Ronaldo. Money was never the problem. Al Hilal is capable of signing all the stars of the world.”

According to Ben Nafe, Ronaldo was offered an unbelievable 242 million euros for two years!

However, as President ben Nafe describes, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) prevented a transfer.

In May, the Saudi Football Association imposed a transfer ban on Al-Hilal for the next two transfer windows (and fined him around €7.5m). The trigger for this ban was the change of midfielder Mohamed Kannos. The Saudi international signed for Al-Nassr in the winter after his contract with Al-Hilal expired. He then signed another contract with Al-Hilal and played for his old club again.

A clear violation of FIFA’s statutes, as a player cannot be under contract with two clubs.

Nevertheless, Al-Hilal negotiated with Ronaldo! President ben Nafe: “The problem lay in the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which prevented us from signing players. However, we did not stop negotiating and tried to delay the final phase of negotiations until the sanction was lifted.”
