MLB: Summary of the games of September 13 in the stadiums of the American

One is good, but two is better. Aaron Judge hit two long pitches Tuesday night to help the New York Yankees win 7-6 over the Boston Red Sox in a game that ended in the 10th inning.

With his two long balls, Judge now has 57 bombs this season. The last to hit that many home runs in a season was current teammate Giancarlo Stanton with his mark of 59 in 2017. Judge finished the game with three runs scored, three hits and two RBIs in four at bats.

With the victory, the Yankees lead at the top of the American East is now 6.5 games over the Blue Jays.

The Sox were the first to quickly establish their rhythm. In the first inning, youngster Triston Casas hit the second homer of his Major League career to put Boston up 2-0.

The Yankees responded on their next turn at bat in the second inning. Marwin Gonzalez stretched his arms to tie the game 2-2 with a two-point long ball.

Then after watching Reese McGuire put the Red Sox back in charge with a third-inning solo homer, Judge finally found his groove. In the 6th, he snapped a five-game homer streak to tie the game 3-3 with a solo slap.

History repeated itself for Judge moments later. After a Xander Bogaerts homer put the Sox back in the driver’s seat, Judge hit another homer, this time to eventually force an extra inning.

In the 10th inning, Gleyber Torres emptied the trails with a double that made it 7-4 in favor of the Yankees.

The Red Sox closed the gap to just one point, but Wandy Peralta managed to get out of hot water and close the books to give the victory to the Bronx Bombers.

Yankees starter Gerrit Cole allowed four hits and four runs in six innings of work. In the Red Sox camp, Nick Pivetta was called out of the game after giving up six hits and three runs in five and a third innings.

The two teams will meet on Wednesday evening for the second and final duel of this series of two matches.

Trout’s streak stops at seven

Los Angeles Angels star outfielder Mike Trout’s homer streak was snapped to seven on Tuesday night in a 3-1 loss to the Cleveland Guardians.

Trout has been limited to three routine balls in three official plate appearances. He also received a walk.

A three-time American League Most Valuable Player winner, Trout was trying to tie the major league record of eight straight home runs, first set by Pittsburgh Pirates’ Dale Long. in 1956.

This mark was then equaled by Don Mattingly of the New York Yankees in 1987 and by Ken Griffey Jr. of the Seattle Mariners in 1993.

Trout admitted that the footage occupied his thoughts.

“I won’t lie,” he said. I was thinking about it, that’s for sure. Everyone texted me. You (the journalists) ask me lots of questions. It’s a bit difficult (not to think about it). »

Trout said he was particularly thinking about a home run when he faced hard-hitting pitcher James Karinchak, against whom he hit a fly ball to right field, in the eighth inning, with a two-ball count and a strike.

“It’s in the nature of things, I guess. When I think of circuits, it’s not good, as you have seen. I rushed on bad throws. I was too pumped up. I’ll have to start another streak, I guess. »

Guardians manager Terry Francona wished Trout the best before the game, up to a point.

“If I was a fan, I’d be screwed to my seat hoping he’d make it to eight,” Francona admitted.

“Since I’m screwed to my seat over there (in the dugout), I hope he doesn’t make it. But he is good for sports. In fact, he is very good at sports. »

A two-run homer from Oscar Gonzalez broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the Guardians to their fifth straight victory. José Ramirez led the way with a double, and Gonzalez slammed an arrow that went over the top of the left field fence against José Suarez (6-7).

Rookie pitcher Kirk McCarty (3-2) held the Angels to one hit in 3 2/3 innings for the Guardians, winners of seven of their last eight games.

Emmanuel Clase gave up a single after two outs in the ninth inning, but he struck out Matt Duffy on three strikes and had his 35th save of 38 opportunities.

On his first two visits to the plate, Trout faced rookie pitcher Cody Morris. In the first inning, he hit a fly ball to center field and batted out a walk in the third inning, with a teammate posted at second base.

In the fifth inning, Trout faced McCarty and was out on another fly ball to center field.

Trout became the first player in the American League to hit at least one homer in seven straight games since Kendrys Morales with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018. Canadian Joey Votto with the Cincinnati Reds had homered strength last season in the National League, July 24-30.

Matt Thaiss had given the Angels the lead with a home run against Morris in the third inning. The Guardians tied the score in the fifth, courtesy of a sacrifice ball from Luke Maile.
