After a prolific season at minor league level, Miss South baseball students matte wall heads to the major leagues for the first time.
The Minnesota Twins announced Saturday that Wallner, an outfielder, has been called up to replace Max Kepler, who is heading to the injured list.
Wallner is the third Golden Eagle to earn his first promotion to Major League Baseball this season, joining Chuckie Robinson of the Reds and Kirk McCarty of the Guardians.
The Minnesota native posted a 1.033 OPS in 78 games with the Wichita Wind Surge before his promotion to the AAA St. Paul Saints, where his .839 OPS in 50 games was enough to get the call. The Twins find themselves in the middle of a vital series with the Guardians, who they trail by five games in the AL Central.
