Mathys Tel and Serhou Guirassy: Import successes from Brittany – Sport

The connections between Brittany in western France and Munich-Fröttmaning have so far been largely undocumented. On the one hand, this could be related to the fact that in the VIP area of the Munich Arena, common Upper Bavarian fattening pigs are still consumed more frequently than fine Breton lobsters. On the other hand, with the fact that Brittany was not known as a supplier location for football players who left a lasting impression in Fröttmaning – which, however, can no longer be said after the events on Saturday afternoon.

Shortly after 4 p.m., the young Frenchman Mathys Tel entered the annals of FC Bayern as the youngest Bundesliga goalscorer. Tel was 17 years and 136 days old on Saturday, ousting his equally youthful, although now very mature teammate Jamal Musiala in second place in this ranking by 69 days.

Musiala secured his own hymns of praise with a goal against VfB Stuttgart as the game progressed, but one positive finding of the sixth matchday from Bayern’s point of view is that they signed a special young guy from the deep west of France.

When Tel’s move from Stade Rennes for 20 million was announced, outside the world of experts, one was a little amazed at such an expensive young Frenchman. At least very few assumed that he would score two goals in his first two starts.

In the first round of the cup at Viktoria Köln, Tel had already indicated a lot of potential, and now he passed the test under more serious conditions against VfB’s edgy Bundesliga defense. Tel played with a lot of courage, energetically sprinting up and down the sidelines, even if it sometimes seemed as if Thomas Müller’s loud signals were confusing him a little during the start-up behavior.

It was “lucky to be the goalscorer of this legendary club,” Tel said after the game. He left the critical words about the 2-2 draw – the third league draw in a row – to spokesman Müller, who warned the team not to have been bilious enough. Tel was largely acquitted of this accusation, he was no longer on the field when the game ended in a draw – the role of spoilsport, however, also took on a former Breton.

Guirassy already plays a central role at VfB

Serhou Guirassy played alongside Tel seven times last season at Rennes, and the two have now met again in Munich, where they have played different roles. Unlike Tel, Guirassy, 26, can no longer refer to any talent status, but took on the central role in the storm at VfB Stuttgart for the first time after his commitment, in which he is to replace the emigrated Sasa Kalajdzic. Guirassy did that brilliantly, with a lot of effort, a crossbar shot and finally a massive penalty converted just before the end.

“It’s good to have gotten him so late,” said Stuttgart’s sporting director Sven Mislintat, satisfied with his loan deal negotiated late in the transfer window, which also tells a little about the Bundesliga. Unlike in the rest of Europe, German clubs have long had to look around in secondary football markets like Brittany in order to do good business, albeit at different levels, of course. However, with both the expensive talent and the loaned Kalajdzic replacement, there is much to suggest that links to western France should be maintained.
