New coaching job for Lothar Matthäus

What a mega commitment from TSV Grünwald…

Record national player Lothar Matthäus (61) is now training the Bavarian youth team! Background: Matthäus’ son Milan (8) also kicks in the team.

On “Sky” the ex-Bayern star explains how his new role came about: “They didn’t have a coach because their coach quit. Then I agreed to take on the big responsibility for the little boys.”

A special kind of challenge!

“Tying your shoes is always the key. Most of them can’t tie their shoes at the age of eight, nine or ten,” reveals Matthäus, who has already coached Bulgaria, Maccabi Netanya, Hungary, Partizan Belgrade and Rapid Vienna.

His players (who are usually eight to eleven years old in the E-Youth) are well aware of who is on the sidelines: “We have fun, I enjoy it too.”

TSV Grünwald won the first game of the season on Saturday with 8:2.

A successful debut, even if Matthäus no longer wants to be responsible for something in the future. To tie the shoes of his protégés: “I told mothers to teach their children to tie shoes. I could do that when I was five or six.”
