Judo: Costa’s poker of victories at the European Championships for the visually impaired – Sardinia

Among the Italians, silver in Giordano and bronze in Spampinato

Four wins out of four matches for Carolina Costa, the spearhead of the Italian national team of visually impaired and blind Paralympic judo athletes. And then silver for Asia Giordano, bronze for Alessia Spampinato. And again: four titles for Ukraine, three gold medals for Turkey who also beat Ukraine in the team match that took place on the last day of the championship. These are the main results of the three days dedicated to judo for partially sighted and blind Paralympic athletes at the PalaPirastu in Cagliari.

The European championship, organized by IBSA, (International blind sport Association) international Paralympic federation of the sport of the blind, with the support of the Sardinia Region together with its departments for Sport and Tourism and thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality of Cagliari, involved 92 athletes from 20 nations out of 22 registered. 76 races that took place in three days. The objectives: sport, culture, sociality and tourism. “Center yourself”, says the general manager of the event Dario Della Gatta.

“This race, together with others, contributes to give a score that will lead to the list of participants in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, but for us it is not important to arrive on the podium, our attention is focused on the values ​​that are often lacking in the society in which we live: solidarity, sociability, culture. The three days at PalaPirastu was therefore a victory “. And then the induced. “80% of athletes and companions had never visited Sardinia – explains Della Gatta – and 3 out of 5 will probably choose Cagliari for their next holidays”.
