Löw: “Dear Franz. It’s your birthday today, so I’d like to wish you all the best and congratulate you from the bottom of my heart. But I would also like to say THANK YOU for what you have done for football Germany and for all of us. As a player, as a coach, as an official.”

Löw continued: “You were largely responsible for the fact that we were able to experience such a great World Cup in Germany in 2006. It was an incredibly beautiful summer fairy tale. The World Cup in Germany did Germany’s image good all over the world. That still applies today. You were responsible for that.”

Löw, 1997 cup winner with VfB Stuttgart: “You shine brightly for me, and not just on your birthday.”

Löw ended his speech emotionally: “Thank you for being there.”

Löw was national coach from 2006 to the EM 2021. He won the World Cup with the DFB-Elf in 2014 and finished third in the 2010 World Cup. In 2008 he celebrated second place at the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland. Löw has not started a new job as a coach since the knockout round against England (0-2) at the end of June 2021.

Franz Beckenbauer is a German soccer legend. As a player he became World (1974) and European Champion (1972), won the Intercontinental Cup with Bayern and the European Champion Clubs’ Cup three times in a row (1974, 1975, 1976). He was also four times German champion and four times cup winner with the Munich club.

As a coach, Beckenbauer’s World Cup triumph in 1990 is at the top. Unforgettable how the “Kaiser” wandered around the square lost in thought after beating Argentina 1-0 in the final in Rome. He won the German championship with Bayern in 1994 after taking over from Erich Ribbeck during the winter break. After the dismissal of Otto Rehhagel in April 1996, he won the Uefa Cup with Munich. The team of Jürgen Klinsmann, Oliver Kahn, Lothar Matthäus and Thomas Helmer celebrated victories in the first leg (2-0) and second leg (3-1) against Girondins Bordeaux.
