With a home win: JC Leipzig’s men can secure DM bronze

Leipzig. A victory separates the judo men of JC Leipzig from entering the Final Four in November in Hamburg and from the secure bronze medal in this year’s German team championship. These two points should be scored in the last home fight of the season this Saturday (6 p.m., Brüderstraße) against Samurai Offenbach.

The Leipzig team, who are in first place in the southern group, are squinting at the relay victory in a long-distance duel with the series champion Abensberg, who has the same number of points. “Before we look at the amount of victory, we have to win first,” says JCL manager Stefan Schulze. After all, the Hessians, fifth in the squad of ten, are not a harmless opponent.

The JCL could have said goodbye to its two World Cup starters, Lennart Slamberger and Daniel Herbst, in front of their home crowd. But starting tomorrow, of all times, national coach Pedro Guedes is asking for the World Cup course in Kienbaum. “We have a good relationship with Pedro. But the ban on competition before the World Cup certainly doesn’t have to be there, in other nations it doesn’t exist,” explains Schulze. The 21-year-old Slamberger in particular would have benefited from a build-up competition in the Bundesliga after a long injury break – especially for self-confidence.

The multiple Romanian champion Laszlo Szoke made it onto the Bundesliga poster. The 35-year-old was one of the most reliable JCL cracks in the league for more than a decade. He is to be said goodbye to the home crowd on Saturday.
