Without Jannik Sinner, but with Lorenzo Musetti and Matteo Berrettini, Italy started the Davis Cup duel with Croatia on Wednesday. Both Azzurri were able to win their games.

First up was Musetti (ATP 30). He faced Borna Bojo and defeated the Croatian, who is ranked 164th in the world, in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). Berrettini (ATP 15) had a little more trouble. However, his opponent, Borna Coric, was also significantly higher, because he is in 26th place in the ATP ranking.
The Croatian secured the first set in a tie-break with 7:6 (7:4). The injured Berrettini was obviously proud, because the Italian turned up the heat. With 6:2 and 6:1 Berrettini secured the other sets and finally won 2:1.
Jannik Sinner was not yet in action, but he was able to look forward to visitors from South Tyrol: the tennis ladies from Auer asked him for a souvenir photo.
In doubles in the evening, Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini met Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic. The Azzurri also won this duel 2-1. Italy meets Argentina on Friday. Then the ailing Jannik Sinner will also be part of the game.
