Injuries at the USMNT; Gregg Berhalter’s number one enemy before the World Cup

Gregg Berhalter was again the center of criticism after the loss suffered by the United States team 2-0 against Japan just two months before the Qatar 2022 World Cup begins. However, the number one enemy of the strategist is injuries.

The North Americans they were vastly outnumbered by the Asian team and they did not even have a shot on goal in the entire matcha situation that made the situation more complicated.

Berhalter could not count on four usual starters in the national team. Christian PulisicAntonee Robinson, Yunus Musah and Timothy Weah were not taken into account because they suffered injuries that the Team USA coach did not want to risk.

Injuries do not leave the USMNT alone

It is not only in this meeting, The United States have not had a complete squad in practically all the qualifiers and even now in the friendlies ahead of the World Cup that will start at the end of November.

For friendly matches in June, Giovanni Reyna and Sergiño Dest were the great absentees from the call that Berhalter gave. March is when he was closest to having a full squad, but the now AC Milan winger was injured during the final dates of the qualifiers.

Perhaps one of the most sensitive losses occurred in the central defense with Miles Robinsonwho had settled into that position before suffering an injury with Atlanta United that practically knocked him out of the World Cup.

The United States will hold one more friendly match against Saudi Arabia next Tuesday, September 27and unless they schedule another one at the last minute, everything indicates that it will be the last rehearsal before the World Cup.
