Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do, swept ’14 medals’ in middle and high school badminton national tournament

Jeollanam-do Hwasun middle and high school badminton players won 14 medals at the 2022 Korea Secondary and High School Badminton Federation President’s National Student Championship, solidifying their status as ‘Badminton Mecca Hwasun’.

According to Hwasun-gun (Governor Bok-gyu Koo), in this tournament, four Hwasun middle and high school badminton players won 14 medals, including Yeon Seo-yeon and Ahn Won-hee from Hwasun High School taking the doubles gold medal around their necks.

The tournament was held from the 27th of last month to the 5th of September at the Miryang Badminton Stadium in Miryang, Gyeongnam. The competition was divided into men’s and women’s middle and high school team competitions, individual competitions, and singles, doubles, and mixed doubles by grade level.

Hwasun Middle and High School players won 6 medals in the middle school and 8 medals in the high school.

Hwasun Jeil Middle School (coach Jin-ah Seo) rang first. Hwasun Jeil Middle School placed 3rd in the women’s middle school team event on the 29th of last month.

In Hwasun Jeil Middle School, Yoo Seung-yeon won the silver medal in the first-year singles, Kim Ji-eun won the bronze medal in the third-year singles, and Kim Ji-eun and Kim Ye-jin won the bronze medal in the third-year doubles.

At Hwasun Middle School (coach Do Hye-gil), Jeong Da-hwan won the bronze medal in the second year singles, and Lee Ji-ho and Jang Hee-oh won the bronze medal in the third year doubles.

Hwasun High School (coach Kim Myung-hyeon) continued their victories after finishing third in the team event on the 2nd.

On the 5th, Seo-yeon Yeon won the silver medal in the first-year singles, and Seo-yeon Yeon and Won-hee Ahn took the gold medal and Mi-joo Kim and Mi-so Kim took the silver medal respectively in the final of the first-year doubles match between Hwasun High.

Jeonnam High School of Technology (coach regime) Hyunbin Yoo secured a bronze medal in the first year singles, and Seongju Park secured a silver medal in the second year singles.

In the doubles, 2nd graders Park Seong-ju and Kim Myung-in won the bronze medal, and in the 3rd year doubles, Jung Min-je and Kim Ha-bin won the bronze medal.

An official from Hwasun County said, “The dedication of the leaders and the efforts of continuous training from the Yongdae Gymnasium, a badminton stadium, to elementary, middle, high school, and business teams seem to have led to good results.”

Goo Bok-gyu, mayor of Hwasun County said, “I am proud of the badminton team that raised Hwasun’s status in the national competition.
