Leon ten Voorde and Kenneth Perez are not surprised by the fact that the Supervisory Board of Ajax intervened in the transfer of Lucas Ocampos. The Amsterdammers wanted to take over the Argentine from Seville for twenty million euros, but that stopped the Supervisory Board.
“There has been no leadership at Ajax in recent weeks,” Ten Voorde says about it football talk. “It has become clear that a lot is wrong there at the moment.” Incidentally, he is not of the opinion that the Supervisory Board should stand aside when attracting players. ‘If they think it is an irresponsible expenditure, then I think it is very good that they have stepped on the brakes. You have to board it up at the front and that has been the inexperience of the Ajax leadership.’
According to colleague Perez, one thing became clear at the end of the transfer window: ‘It has turned out that the Supervisory Board determines it at Ajax. Hamstra and Huntelaar are still puppets at the moment. I don’t think this would ever happen with Marc Overmars. Marc Overmars had as a rule: something from five days before, nobody leaves and nobody comes. If the new technical people don’t think that’s important, then that rule no longer applies.’
“If Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is a bit further in his career as technical director, this is not something for his character to accept,” adds the Danish former Ajax player. “He’s not experienced enough to deal with this sort of thing yet, but I can imagine it will be ready at some point as far as he’s concerned.”
Ajax – Rangers
Ajax will play against Rangers on Wednesday. It concerns the first game for the club of the Champions League season and Perez expects little to no difficulties. ‘Rangers don’t really seem like a problem for Ajax. Have they proven it in recent years? With the crowd, which is very different when it’s a Champions League game. I have seen Rangers against PSV and that is very little.
