Hammer lots for HSV and St. Pauli |

Bye, DFB Cup…!?

Geez! The Hamburg second division teams in the DFB Cup could hardly have had it worse. In the second round (October 18/19), HSV will face defending champions RB Leipzig. St. Pauli has to go to the current Bundesliga leader SC Freiburg.

Bye, DFB Cup…!?

In April 2019, HSV failed in the semifinals at RB Leipzig (1: 3), now the new edition – and that away. In the first round, Leipzig defeated regional league club Teutonia 8-0.

Coach Tim Walter (46): “We need games and challenges like this to get better and to continue on our way. We want to survive and win there too.”

The game in Freiburg will be a reunion party for St. Pauli. Sports boss Andreas Bornemann (50) once worked there. Most recently, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (26) switched to SCF.

Coach Timo Schultz (45): “We’re looking forward to seeing Kofi and my former team-mate Florian Bruns, who works on the coaching team in Freiburg. We are the clear outsider.”

Cheers, however, at fourth division VfB Lübeck. Against Mainz 05 came the surprise in 2009/10 when they defeated the Bundesliga club 2-1 aet.

Coach Lukas Pfeiffer (31): “We’re looking forward to Mainz 05. The club has very positive associations, because we’ve had them in the DFB Cup at the Lohmühle – and we’ve also played very successfully…”
