Three additional golf courses will be protected on the territory of the Montreal Metropolitan Commission (CMM), which on Thursday approved an amendment to its interim control regulations (RCI).

Totaling 190 hectares, these three spaces, which are added to the six golf courses already protected by the same regulatory mechanism, are the Boucherville golf club, Golf Dorval and Golf Ste-Rose in Laval, bringing the area of protected areas to 474 hectares.
“These three new golf courses that will be protected once again demonstrate the ability of cities to take strong action to accelerate the ecological transition and meet the expectations of the population,” said Valérie Plante, Mayor of Montreal and President of the CMM.
“Incorporating the Boucherville golf course into the CMM’s RCI is an excellent measure that will preserve the recreational use of this space in perpetuity,” said Jean Martel, Mayor of Boucherville.
“While Golf Ste-Rose is already protected by a regulation that protects it in the City’s new Urban Planning Code, its inclusion in this RCI reinforces our commitment to the environment and to preserving natural spaces”, said Stéphane Boyer, mayor of Laval.
“As Montreal prepares to host COP 15 and the protection objectives will have to be revised upwards, we expect this gesture to serve as an example for our partners,” added Ms.me Plante.
Pending its entry into force in its modified formula, the RCI aims to promote the conversion and renaturalization of green spaces in the metropolitan region in order to reach the protection targets to deal with climate change.
