Giuliana Olmos becomes the first Mexican in the Top 10 of the WTA

This Saturday, Giuliana Olmos made history in Mexican sports by entering the Top 10 of the doubles ranking of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) after reaching the quarterfinals of the US Open along with her racket partner, Gabriela Dabrowski.

It was so the Mexican was positioned as the eighth best in the world, a fact that was made official this Monday by the WTA. Thus, she became the first woman to achieve this feat.

It should be noted that in May of this year, Olmos was already in eleventh placea position that improved significantly in the US Open tournament.

Giuliana is also placed as the second figure of Mexican tennis to obtain a ranking in a top ten. The first was Raúl Ramírez in 1976 when he got fourth place in singles and first in doubles.

Who is Giuliana Olmos?

The Mexican tennis player began her career on the WTA in 2017 at the age of 24. Since 2019 Olmos has made it to several tournament finals in the doubles category:

  • Monterrey (2018)
  • Acapulco (2019)
  • Guangzhou (2019)
  • Guadalajara (2021)
  • Roma (2022)

Among her victories, the Mexican tennis player holds four WTA double titles and eight on the ITF circuit. In 2019, Olmos achieved one of her best individual rankings in the WTA, ranking number 343 del ranking global.
