Girona B and Peralada raise the curtain on the Tercera RFEF on Sunday

The promotion of Olot and the relegation of Figueres have left Girona B and Peralada as the only Girona representatives in a Tercera RFEF that starts this weekend. The subsidiary and the people from Alt-Empord face the new financial year with many new faces and very different objectives and challenges. The first stop for both will be Sunday at noon, when Girona B will host Muntanyesaa Riudarenes, and Peralada will face San Cristóbal in Vilatenim. A fungus has left the Municipal turf out of action, which has had to be replanted and has meant that Peralada has to play, in principle, only the first day in Figueres.

Another year, Girona B starts the course with many changes. This year we could even talk about a change of cycle following the farewells of references in recent years such as Morilla, Monjonell, Sala, Pau Víctor or Sulei, among others. “Every year it happens to us, that players leave and many new ones arrive, who come from youth. However, I am very happy with the squad and we arrive at the first match, ready”, says Àxel Vizuete. The coach underlines the work done by the top manager of Girona grassroots football, Albert Síria, in the planning. “Albert has a keen eye when it comes to recruiting talent and has once again managed to put together a great squad”. Piedra and Riera (Espanyol B), Oussama and Morcillo (Villanovense), Yeray and Almansa (Damm), Alegre (Oviedo), Miguel Ángel Sánchez (Madrid), Domènech (Sant Andreu), Koucha (Nàstic) and Moha (Sabadell), are some of the new faces of the subsidiary. For Vizuete, the pre-season has been “very good”. “We are happy with the work of the dwarfs. The only black spot has been the serious injury of Miguel (Míchel’s son), who was training and competing normally”, he explains.

Calm with the ascent

After Olot blocked their way on the way to promotion to 2nd RFEF last year, the subsidiary is under no pressure. “The club gives us a lot of calm. The aim is to prepare and train the players for the first team. At no time have we been told about promotion. Everything is a process and we have a lot of confidence in the talent of this squad”, recalls Vizuete. In this sense, Girona had this summer on the table the possibility of buying the place of Costa Brava and Extremadura of the 2nd RFEF, but in the end decided not to bet on it. Vizuete is aware that the distance between the first team and the subsidiary is “big” but he understands that “the line is good because many players have been showing their heads”. In this sense, it will be the club that will assess whether Óscar Ureña, Ricard Artero or Joel Roca continue in the dynamic of the first team now that reinforcements have arrived, or whether they strengthen the subsidiary.

El Peralada, in the middle of a “fauna”

Meanwhile, the new Peralada and Miquel Àngel Muñoz will raise the curtain against San Cristóbal in Vilatenim. The new manager of the Alt-Empordana team sets himself the goal of “being competitive in every match and always having options to win”. For Muñoz, who last year guided Banyoles to salvation in 1a Catalana, Peralada will have to know how to move in a category “which is a fauna” full of “very strong” teams such as Hospitalet, Vilafranca Girona B, Europe and “above all”, Sant Andreu.

Busquets for Domi

The club has recovered Llorenç Busquets who returns to the club after having spent the pre-season with Hospitalet. Busquets will take the place of Domi Berlanga, who is leaving for Inter Escaldes Andorra. In this sense, Muñoz believes that “if we can take advantage of the combination of veterans and youth, it will be the perfect balance”. Illustrious people like Alan Baró, Joan Tomàs, Micaló, Romero continue to join the team where Nierga (Alzira), Puig (Banyoles, Espunya and Gómez (Figueres), Moha (Olot), Varese (Cerdanyola), Gallardo ( Castelldefels) or Palacios i Solans (Girona B), among others.
