Gernika could be in the Division of Honor in a League of 13 teams

The ‘basurdes’ will continue in the elite if Alcobendas, who could go down due to improper alignment, does not present allegations #next Tuesday

If this Tuesday, September 13, there are no allegations from Alcobendas, the Intxausti Gernika Group can once again be in the Rugby Division of Honor in a League of 13 teams in the 2022-23 season. And it is that the National Sports Disciplinary Committee, meeting yesterday, decided, in view of the resolution of the Administrative Court of Sports issued on the occasion of the Gernika appeal, to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Alcobendas. The TAD considered that the possibility of the National Sports Disciplinary Committee acting in the event of any improper line-ups by Gavin Van Der Berg (Alcobendas player) had not expired.

Consequently, the CNDD of the Spanish Rugby Federation has opened a file in which it proposes sanctions for two infractions: for the line-ups in which Alcobendas played with fewer training players than those required by the regulations, considering that the aforementioned player never he should have held that condition (he raises a penalty of 30,050 euros and the withdrawal of 38 points in the 2021-22 League classification, which would mean his direct relegation as last classified), and for Van Der Berg’s lineup in several subsequent games to the express recognition of the manipulation of the passport carried out in a document signed by the then president of Alcobendas (it is another different infraction and a fine of 30,050 euros). To this is added the demotion of category to Division of Honor B.

“Redo Sort”

Now, Alcobendas is granted, until Tuesday at 3:00 p.m., a hearing to make allegations. If the Madrid team ends up being relegated, a League of 13 teams with Belenos and Gernika would be proposed. It is estimated that now, a few days before the start of the competition, Belenos cannot be forced to play some promotion matches, nor can Gernika be deprived of that possibility. The only acceptable solution is for both clubs to compete in the Division of Honor. “The normal thing is that the classification is remade,” the president of Gernika, Iñaki Uribe, told this newspaper. The ‘basurdes’ can maintain the category and continue in the elite if their resource prospers until the end.
