Königstein and Bad Homburg receive money from the state

HOCHTAUNUS – The Hessian health resorts did not have it easy during the Corona period: due to the contact restrictions, spa guests could not come at all or not as numerous as in normal times. The thermal baths had to close temporarily or restrict access. At the same time, the running costs of the healthcare infrastructure around the pools remained high.

In order to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic for the stricken pools, the state government set up an aid program with a volume of 15 million euros in 2020. Ten million euros have already flowed to the spas in 2020 and 2021.

Now there are another five million. Bad Homburg and Königstein will also benefit from this: In the third and final tranche, the district town will now receive EUR 292,937 and the castle town EUR 155,669. In total, the State of Hesse paid Bad Homburg 842,350 euros and Königstein 502,747 euros. According to the ministry, the distribution of the funds to the individual health resorts has been coordinated with the municipal umbrella organizations and the spa association. The contributions include the number of beds, overnight stays and residents.

“Healing resorts are particularly affected by the Corona crisis. That is why the state government quickly decided in 2020 to support the affected communities with additional money during the crisis in order to secure the spa facilities for the future,” said Hesse’s Finance Minister Michael Boddenberg (CDU) in Wiesbaden.

The ministry emphasized that the state already supports its bathing communities with regular payments of currently around 13 million euros annually. judo
