France Football and L’Équipe announce the creation of the Socrates prize

There is one more prize that will be awarded at the Ballon d’Or ceremony: the Socrates prize.

According to the note released by France Football and L’Équipe, the distinction will reward «solidarity actions carried out by committed champions». This distinction was born out of a partnership between the two publications and the organization «Peace and Sport».

Socrates was, remember, a former Brazilian international who was notable for fighting off the pitch in favor of democracy. He was one of the faces of the «Corinthian Democracy» movement and earned the nickname Doctor for being a doctor by profession.
