Former star Mateusz Ponitka, one of the Basketball Super League teams, Pınar Karşıyaka, who did not negotiate to join his squad this season, gave a performance that went down in history at the European Basketball Championship.
The Polish star, whose name was mentioned for a long time with Karşıyaka, for whom he played in the 2016-2017 season, played a leading role in the semi-finals of his country’s EuroBasket 2022 by eliminating the last champion Slovenia, played by Luka Doncic, one of the most important players of the NBA.
The 29-year-old shooting guard, who scored a triple-double with 26 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in Poland’s quarter-final defeat to Slovenia 90-87, became the fourth player in the history of the European Championship to achieve this.
Stojan Vrankovic in 1993, Toni Kukoc in 1995, and Andrei Mandache in 2017 had triple-double in the championship.
Ponitka, who also has a house in Mavişehir, does not leave Karşıyaka after her career in Turkey and comes to İzmir in the summer months.
