Football: Bad news for Kalajdzic after his debut

Soccer

Sasa Kalajdzic’s debut at Wolverhampton Wanderers will remain the Austrian striker’s only appearance at the Premier League club for some time. As it turned out on Sunday, the attacker, who was signed by VfB Stuttgart a few days ago, suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the 1-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League. The club did not provide any information about the severity, but according to information from “Bild” it is said to be a cruciate ligament tear.

The “Wolves” only announced that the 25-year-old would see a knee specialist on Monday. Then it’s about supporting the striker in his recovery. On his debut in the English House of Lords, Kalajdzic stayed on the floor just before half-time without outside influence, holding his left knee. At half-time, the two-meter man stayed in the dressing room.

A cruciate ligament injury is not new territory for Kalajdzic, as he had to endure a long break from July 2019 to April 2020 due to a cruciate ligament tear. Kalajdzic only switched to the “Wolves” on Wednesday for an estimated transfer fee of around 18 million euros. The injury is extremely bitter for his new employer, especially since the club had assumed a harmless injury on Saturday.

His absence is also a setback for the ÖFB team, which will soon end the UEFA Nations League with the duels against France (September 22/away) and Croatia (September 25).
