Erling Haaland’s father reveals: “Bavaria was the second option, then…” – FOOTBALL

Exciting details!

Striker superstar Erling Haaland (22) switched from Dortmund to Manchester City in the summer for 60 million. In the TV documentary “The Big Decision”, fans can follow the entire process of the change in detail.

And also find out which clubs were on the list in which order for the big summer transfer!

From the first talks to the decision – producers have accompanied Haaland and those around him since spring 2022, documenting all the important information about the upcoming Hammer change.

Also in the documentary: Alf-Inge Haaland (49), Erling’s father, reveals the exact order of the clubs that were eligible for a change last spring: “In our list, I think Manchester City is the best team. Bayern was the second option, then we have Real Madrid as number three, Paris Saint-Germain as number four. We also have some English teams other than City that are pretty good. Liverpool and Chelsea. Then there is Barcelona. They’re kind of in the same row.”

Manchester United was not an issue at the time! But there is uncertainty about Robert Lewandowski (34/then still with FC Bayern, now Barcelona) and the rumors of a change about Kylian Mbappé (23/PSG).

Papa Haaland: “City is a 10 out of 10 in that regard. Bayern Munich gets a point for that, they don’t need number 9. They have their best player as number 9, but if Lewandowski leaves then they don’t have anyone else. It would be quite controversial to go to Munich, but if we go through with it, it’s one of the best teams. Real Madrid is a 5 or 6. They have Karim Benzema and maybe they will get Mbappé?”

There were new transfer rumors about the Norwegian almost every day until the officially announced change of city in May. At some point, the BVB bosses in particular were totally annoyed and wanted a decision. Now the statements from Papa Haaland, which – at least in retrospect – provide some clarification in the exchange theater.

Erling Haaland says: “It’s the best sporting project in the world of football at the moment. It’s the place where I think I’ll do my best.”

About his salary (around 30 million euros per year): “Earning the most money is not the priority, but you want to do as much as possible. If you can get 5,000 Norwegian kroner for a job or 10,000 for the same job, take the 10,000. Anyone would do that. I dreamed of playing football and making a living from it for the rest of my life.”

Papa Alf-Inge also gives surprisingly open insights into his son’s future plans: “I think Erling wants to test his qualities in all leagues. So he could play three to a maximum of four years in each league. He could spend two and a half years in Germany, two and a half years in England and then Spain, Italy and France, right? But we don’t know if that will happen.”

Especially at Real Madrid, who are planning a transfer attack on the striker in the summer of 2024, these statements will be noted with increased interest…
