Has Manchester City found the last puzzle piece for the Champions League? Erling Haaland has to chase away the demons and convincingly won his European story at the English champion. He was responsible for half of the goals against Sevilla: 0-4. Kevin De Bruyne supplied the first rose.

Sevilla – Manchester City in a nutshell:

  • key moment: A folded Sevilla has to change tactics after 20 minutes. The opening goal was pushed against the ropes by Haaland. The start of a dominant performance from City to which Sevilla never had an answer.
  • Man of the match: A good striker is in the right place at the right time and Haaland did that twice tonight. The striker is gradually developing into the missing puzzle piece of Manchester City.
  • Statistics: In his first 20 Champions League matches, Haaland scored a whopping 25 goals. The Norwegian thus crushes the previous record, which was held by Roberto Soldado and Ruud van Nistelrooij ( 16 goals each).

Belgian-Norwegian connection puts City on roses

A swaying Sevilla got a visit from Manchester City tonight. No fun for the Spanish team.

The tactical plan of trainer Lopetegui was clear: survive and possibly poke on the counter.

That idea was soon put away because after 20 minutes (captain) Kevin De Bruyne saw an approaching Erling Haaland in the sixteen.

The Norwegian phenomenon thanked our compatriot for the tailor-made cross and tapped the ball against the nets: 0-1.

City remained lord and master and kept Sevilla under their thumb without having to fully press the accelerator pedal.

Sergio Gomez (ex-Anderlecht) was in the starting team for the first time and saw that it was good. The Spaniard turned smoothly and never got into trouble.

The Haland Phenomenon

Even after the break, Sevilla was unable to provide an appropriate response to Manchester City’s dominant football. Just before the hour Phil Foden made the 0-2 and the books could be completely closed.

Ten minutes later, Haaland made it 0-3 and Guardiola decided to give his strongholds some rest. There is no adjustment period for the Norwegian striker. In 7 appearances for City, Haaland has scored 12 goals.

Moreover, Haaland also played his 20th game in the Champions League today. He has already hit 25 times. An absolute record.

Deep in the final, Ruben Dias recorded the 0-4 final score. Substitute and debuting Adnan Januzaj (78′), could not save the home team from the inevitable.

De Bruyne: “I know Erling will be there somehow”

For the third time this season, De Bruyne can provide an assist to Haaland. Our compatriot was also named Man of the Match.

“I’m just doing my job and trying to create as many opportunities as possible,” said KDB. “I know that Erling (Haaland, ed.) will be there one way or another.”
