End of Ignacio Monzón’s stay in the Buenos Aires Challenger

The tennis player from Corrientes Ignacio Monzón said goodbye yesterday to the Challenger in Buenos Aires. In the doubles match with Genaro Alberto Olivieri they lost to Andrea Collarini and Juan Pablo Paz, 6-3, 6-7(6) and 10-7 in one hour and 41 minutes of play.

It should be remembered that last week Ignacio Monzón, in the company of Facundo Juárez, had reached the final of the Villa María Challenger, in Córdoba.

As for the individual main draw of the Buenos Aires Challenger, the first four places for the quarterfinals, corresponded to Argentine tennis players. Facundo Bagnis, Camilo Ugo Carabelli and Juan Manuel Cerúndolo kept the initial wins on Wednesday at the Racket Club. Bagnis (112th) became the first passenger among the top eight in the seventh edition of the Buenos Aires Challenger. The native of Armstrong, Santa Fe, beat his compatriot Juan Bautista Torres 6-1 and 6-4. “I’m very happy. In this tournament we are a majority of Argentines, that’s why I think we fight so hard to win each game”, remarked who had been absent in the last season of the contest. Who will be his next opponent? Juan Manuel Cerúndolo (178th), a 20-year-old left-hander and one of the great promises of national tennis. With a great performance, he defeated Hernán Casanova 6-2 twice to repeat the appearance in the quarterfinals of a competition that sees him get the best performance out of him.

The battle of the day was in the hands of Camilo Ugo Carabelli (118th), seeded fourth and protagonist of the best season of his career. The right-hander prevailed in the contest against his compatriot Juan Bautista Otegui and prevailed with a score of 6-2, 0-6 and 6-4.

For his part, Renzo Olivo (°169) went directly to the quarterfinals because Yannick Hanfmann withdrew due to an injury to his right shoulder.
