Emoni Bates, NBA prospect, is arrested for illegal possession of a weapon

Emoni Batesplayer for the Eastern Michigan basketball team and leaflet of the NBA, was arrested during the night of September 18 two miles from the university campus.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office stated that Bates was taken into custody after failing to stop at an intersection.. The basketball player is charged charges of carrying an illegal weapon and altering the identification marks of a weapon.

The native of Ypsilanti, Michigan, he spent his freshman year in college basketball with the Memphis Tigers before requesting a transfer to the Eastern Michigan Eagles. In the 18 games he played with Derrick Rose’s alma mater, Bates posted averages of 9.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

Eastern Michigan University released a statement to The Athletic about Bates’ arrest.

“We are aware of the situation surrounding student athlete Emoni Bates. Eastern Michigan University takes the allegations seriously. Per athletic department guidelines, he has been automatically suspended and will not be able to play or practice until the legal process is complete.. As it is an ongoing legal situation, the University will not comment further on it,” the university stated.
